Introduction

Special effects is a unit that I am very excited to part take in. I like the contrast that it will have in comparison to last years work, as well as the more beauty-side of things I will be carrying out along side this unit. I feel this will make me more motivated and excited throughout this unit because it is all totally new to me. I like the idea of creating characters and wounds that scare people and actually have an effect on the viewers.

My experience in special effects is very limited - I carried out some self-taught special effects in my project last year (where I turned my mum into a zombie) as shown below. I gathered this information from just watching youtube videos. Other than that, I have not actually had any experience in special effects make-up.

The main worry I have with this unit is being able to make everything look realistic and believable. I want all of my work that I produce to look authentic and life-like, but I realise that this may be quite difficult to achieve, but I will try my very best to do so. I think that it will be quite difficult to blend the wounds and other pieces that I create, into the skin seamlessly, but this is something that I must master to make my work look professional.

Overall, I am really looking forward to this unit of the course, and I hope that I will be able to gain many technical skills, as well as giving me an insight as to whether this is the kind of industry that I would like to move forward into.
